Famous for spawning all the devoweled apps we’ve grown to love, the bay area is the undisputed center of mobile tech. Swiftly moving up in interest to me is a newcomer, Milk. Famous for being a product of the Kevin Rose machine, Milk is the design/dev house behind the Apple featured app, Oink. A comparison they’d squirm at would be “the yelp for things”. I am a longtime fan of their head UI guy’s work, Daniel Burka (@dburka), and believe he is the true rockstar of the company. But beautiful design aside, is Oink just another single-syllable app clawing for the mobile user’s mindshare, or is Milk destined to be in all our households in 2012?

The state of 3D as a creative medium is abysmal. I was asked recently if I could produce a promo film in 3D. Hours of research later, I could not find a single application where a 3D scene doesn’t seem gratuitous (looking at you, GoBro reel!). Then I found this (glasses or crossed eyes required):

…but it’s FOK JULLE season. Gearing up for an unseasonably busy winter, with multiple projects in the pipeline. Nothing like being threatened with all sorts of anal trauma to ignite your holiday spirit! Odd Future, are you listening? -

Bay for Pay
Found time to cram some footage together from a recent stint in the bay area. Most of my time was filled with work, but I managed to escape by night to the roof - camera in tow. This vignette represents the way I saw downtown San Francisco when I wasn’t toiling inside a building: through bleary, sleep deprived eyes, the pulsing beat of nightclubs defying the weeknights’ relative still.

–No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

What an enormous thing it would be to have an openly LGBT person leading not only a Fortune 500, but a Fortune 50 company,” Nelson said. “There’s severe underrepresentation of LGBT people on boards of directors of Fortune 500 companies, and I think this would send a very serious message that LGBT people should be at that table, they should be in those board rooms.
